Wheeling Island University (WIU) came into existence in 2013 as a resource for associates to take a step in developing their skill set and acquiring new skills that can be put into action in the workplace. The program offers courses on leadership, professional behavior, effective decision making as well as employee relations.
This year, WIU incorporated LINK into the six week program. LINK is an online portal that allows the WIU attendant and their direct report to select up to six separate courses that they feel will best help the associate grow in their position.
Carrie Scanlon, Senior Director of Marketing, feels that Wheeling Island University is an outstanding program that encourages development in the potential future management of the property “Wheeling Island University is a wonderful initiative that allows associates to take the proper steps in developing their workplace skills.” Scanlon said, “The associates opting to take these classes are showing their devotion in developing with the property and it is important that we provide them with the tools to do so.”
Each year following the conclusion of the program, Wheeling Island executives and Human Resource Management honor the graduates with a commencement dinner and awards ceremony at The Pointe Sea & Steak.
The 2017 Wheeling Island University graduating class includes: Chad Cottrill, Tamara Williams and Denise Remick.
