Casino officials are working with local leaders to accommodate concert traffic.
Wheeling Island Hotel-Casino-Racetrack released today its plans to manage the thousands of visiting concert-goers expected to attend the Dwight Yoakam concert on Sunday, July 12, 2009 at 8pm in the Wheeling Island Stadium.
In an effort to keep the crowds moving safety and efficiently with minimal impact to local residents, the casino has recruited the support of the City of Wheeling Police to assist guests though the best traffic routes.
The Dwight Yoakam concert will cause S. Stone Street, S. Front Street at Fink Street and S. Penn Street at Fink Street to close from Noon-11pm on June 12, 2009. Only residential traffic will be allowed.
Guests traveling from the Wheeling Suspension Bridge should proceed to S. Broadway Street into the casino’s parking lot.
Guests traveling from I-70 East or West are asked to use S. York Street, the casino’s main parking lot entrance.
“We have been working diligently with Ohio County Schools, our city police and firefighters to bring their expertise to our Outdoor Summer Concerts,” stated Clyde Callicott, Vice President of Marketing at Wheeling Island. “They have executed numerous events of this magnitude over the years, including the Super Six football games, and bring a wealth of knowledge to the table. As a group, we have all the elements in place for a safe, exciting concert event,” continued Callicott.
