Wheeling Island Idol contest offers over $8,500 in cash and prizes including a recording studio package for the Idol grand prize winner!
WHEELING, W.Va. (May 27, 2008) - Wheeling Island Hotel-Casino-Racetrack is looking to discover the next big talent in the regional area with the launch of its first Wheeling Island Idol Amateur Singing Contest open to all persons 21 or older.
The Wheeling Island Idol is the newest entertainment program to be added to the Wheeling Island 2008 Summer Concert Series. Wheeling Island Idol auditions will take place on June 12, 19 & 27, 2008 in the Wheeling Island showroom. All contest semi-finalists will move on to additional rounds held July 3 & 10, 2008 leading up to the finals on July 24, 2008 where one winner will be crowned the distinguished title of Wheeling Island Idol.
"We are really looking forward to our first auditions on June 12. The contest gives us a unique opportunity to showcase the amateur talent in the regional area and award the winners some great prizes. It's going to be a lot of fun," states Jim Simms, President and General Manager of Wheeling Island.
The armature contest will showcase weekly celebrity judges and over $8,500 in cash and prizes including a recording studio package, a $1,800 John Deere riding lawn tractor, $1,000 college scholarship, $500 savings bond, 1-year membership to CenterTown Fitness and Wheeling Island Getaway packages for the top 5 finalists. A special performance by celebrity judge Joe Zelek will take place during the Wheeling Island Idol finals on July 24th.
The promotional prizes are provided in part by participating sponsors including Bridgeport Equipment & Tool, Jefferson Community College, OVMC, First America Community Federal Credit Union, WTRF7/FOX Ohio Valley and Froggy Pittsburgh.
